1. Isolate Power & Remove Wheel Assembly:

Turn off the key ignition, trip the main DC circuit breaker, and elevate the vehicle. Disconnect the brake cable, loosen the main axle nut, and slide the wheel off to expose the drum backplate.

Verification: Wheel rotates freely with zero electrical power live before proceeding.

2. Remove Old Shoes & Clean Hub Drum:

Unhook the old return springs and remove the worn brake shoes from the anchor pivot and cam. Clean internal drum surfaces and dust cover with a dedicated brake cleaner spray.

Verification: Hub interior is completely free of grease, brake dust, or scoring.

3. Install New Evolt Orange Shoes & Springs:

4. Reassemble Wheel & Adjust Cable Tension:

Mount the wheel back onto the axle, tighten the axle nut to torque specification, and reconnect the brake cable. Adjust the tension barrel nut until the wheel spins freely without drag.

Verification: Squeezing the brake lever engages the drum firmly with short travel, and releasing allows the wheel to spin freely.

Power Isolation: Always turn off the ignition, trip the main circuit breaker, and secure the vehicle before performing wheel or brake maintenance.

Contamination Prevention: Keep grease, oil, and chain lubricants away from the friction surfaces and drum wall to avoid brake slip.

Wear & Spring Inspection: Periodically check friction lining thickness and return spring tension; replace shoes if lining wears below 1.5mm.
