Overview

The CONNECTOR [IEC MALE WITH SPRING CAP & 12 AWG] is a heavy-duty AC input socket assembly engineered for electric scooters, e-bikes, off-board battery chargers, and commercial light electric vehicles (LEVs). Serving as a rugged power inlet, it establishes a high-conductivity electrical connection between external AC power sources and onboard charging circuits.

Featuring a spring-loaded protective dust cap, this connector automatically seals the male pin terminals when uncoupled, shielding live electrical contacts from rain, mud, dust, and wash water. Built with a high-impact, flame-retardant thermoplastic housing and pre-wired heavy-gauge 12 AWG copper leads, it supports continuous electrical loads up to 15 Amps across 12V to 60V DC sub-circuits and up to 250V AC utility power inputs, preventing terminal melting and voltage loss during extended fast-charging cycles.

Key Features

  • Spring-Loaded Protective Cap: Integrated spring-hinged cover snaps shut automatically to protect terminal pins against dust, moisture, and road spray.
  • Pre-Wired 12 AWG Copper Harness: Heavy-gauge 12 AWG copper lead wires deliver high-current capacity with minimal electrical resistance and low heat generation.
  • Standardized C14 Male Interface: Mates universally with standard C13 female coupler AC power cables and charging extension cords.
  • Flame-Retardant Thermoplastic Body: Thermal-resistant plastic housing prevents degradation and housing warp during continuous high-amperage charging.
  • Panel Flange Mount: Dual-hole mounting flange ensures a rigid, vibration-resistant fitment onto vehicle fairings, frames, and battery enclosures.

Suitable applications

Suitable Vehicle Types & Applications

  • Electric Scooters & E-Bikes: Weather-protected AC charge inlet for high-capacity 48V–60V onboard chargers mounted on exposed outer panels.
  • Commercial E-Rickshaws & L3/L5 Fleets: Rugged power input receptacle designed to withstand dirty, wet outdoor commercial operating environments.
  • Custom EV Conversions & Battery Modules: Industrial AC power input port for custom battery cases, workshop test rigs, and power distribution enclosures.

System & Electrical Compatibility

  • Universal AC/DC Power Inputs: Fully compatible with standard 12V to 60V DC auxiliary loops and 110V–240V AC power mains.
  • Standard IEC C13 Cord Sets: Fits all standard C13 female socket extension cords and off-board charger cables.

How to use

1. Isolate Power & Cut Panel Opening:

Turn off the key ignition, trip the main DC circuit breaker, and unplug all power leads. Prepare a standard panel cutout with side screw holes on the vehicle frame or charger housing.

Verification: Verify with a multimeter that zero voltage is present across the target connection wires.

2. Mount Socket to Frame:

Pass the 12 AWG wire leads through the panel opening and push the connector housing flush against the mounting surface. Secure the side flanges firmly using mounting screws and lock nuts.

Verification: The connector flange sits completely flush with no looseness or flex when opening the spring cap.

3. Connect 12 AWG Leads to Onboard Circuit:

Splice the pre-wired 12 AWG copper leads into the onboard charger input harness using heavy-duty crimp connectors or full solder joints covered with heat-shrink tubing.

Verification: All wire splices are mechanically tight with zero bare copper exposed beyond the insulating sleeves.

4. Reconnect Power & Perform Charge Test:

Reconnect the main battery leads, reset the circuit breaker, lift the spring cap, and insert a standard C13 AC power cable.

Verification: Charging power transfers continuously with zero pin heating or loose electrical play.

Care and maintenance

Power Isolation: Always trip the main circuit breaker and unplug the AC power cord before servicing or inspecting socket terminals.

Spring Cap & Seal Inspection: Periodically clean dirt and road grime from the spring hinge to ensure the cap closes fully and seals properly when unplugged.

Contact Cleaning: Inspect internal male nickel-plated pins for oxidation or dust buildup; clean with an electrical contact cleaner spray.
