Overview

The SWITCH [IND-OLD] is a heavy-duty, 3-position directional turn signal control switch engineered specifically for classic electric two-wheelers, legacy e-scooters, and commercial e-rickshaws. Built as an exact drop-in replacement for vintage handlebar control assemblies, this switch manages left and right indicator signaling sub-circuits across standard 12V to 60V DC onboard power systems.

Featuring a weather-resistant ABS plastic outer casing and high-conductivity copper alloy internal contacts, the 053c indicator switch delivers low electrical resistance and reliable current flow. Its robust center-off mechanical toggle provides crisp, tactile feedback to prevent unintentional signaling, making it ideal for high-frequency daily use in demanding urban transport environments.

Key Features

  • Legacy Handlebar Fitment: Purpose-built profile designed for direct integration into classic 22mm (7/8-inch) handlebar switch housings without modifying factory panel fairings.
  • 3-Position Directional Toggle: Reliable Left – OFF – Right selector switch with distinct center-detent action to ensure positive signaling engagement.
  • High-Conductivity Copper Terminals: Internal copper alloy contacts reduce voltage drop, ensuring consistent flasher relay operation and bright indicator output.
  • Wide DC Operating Range: Fully compatible with auxiliary lighting systems operating from 12V DC up to 60V DC.
  • Weather-Resistant Housing: Sealed, impact-resistant ABS plastic enclosure shields internal electrical contacts from rain, dust, and continuous road vibration.

Suitable applications

Suitable Vehicle Types & Applications

  • Classic Electric Scooters & E-Bikes: Direct retrofit switch for directional turn signals on legacy two-wheeler handlebar control panels.
  • Commercial E-Rickshaws & L3/L5 Mobility: Heavy-duty, high-frequency indicator control module designed for urban commercial transport and fleet operations.
  • Custom EV Builds & Conversions: Ideal 3-position selector for custom turn-signal harnesses, dual-circuit signaling, or hazard light setups on DIY electric vehicles.

System & Electrical Compatibility

  • Wide 12V–60V DC Sub-Circuits: Controls indicator power feeds operating through onboard DC-DC converters rated between 12V DC and 60V DC.
  • Universal 3-Lead Wiring Harness: Standard 3-wire arrangement for main flasher power input, left-hand signal output, and right-hand signal output.
  • Standard Handlebar Housing Fit: Compact clip-in form factor tailored for classic 22mm (7/8-inch) handlebar switch fairings.

How to use

1. Isolate Vehicle Power & Expose Handlebar Wiring:

Turn off the key ignition, trip the main DC circuit breaker, and disconnect the traction battery pack leads. Unfasten the retaining screws securing the front handlebar cover/fairing to open the inner switch enclosure.

Verification: The instrument cluster, horn, and lighting fail to activate when toggling switches on the handlebar panel.

2. Remove Legacy Turn Signal Switch:

Unplug the 3-pin wiring harness connecting the old indicator switch to the main vehicle loom. Depress the side plastic retaining clips or unfasten the panel screws to pull the old switch out of the 22mm (7/8-inch) handlebar slot.

Verification: The old switch housing separates cleanly without damaging or cracking the surrounding plastic fairing tabs.

3. Seat & Wire SWITCH [IND-OLD]:

Snap the SWITCH [IND-OLD] (053c) into the 22mm handlebar panel cutout until securely latched. Connect the three integrated copper wire leads to the corresponding terminals on the vehicle's indicator harness: Power Lead (Input): Connect to the +12V–60V DC feed wire originating from the flasher relay output.

Left Indicator Lead (Output 1): Connect to the left-hand front/rear turn signal power circuit.

Right Indicator Lead (Output 2): Connect to the right-hand front/rear turn signal power circuit.

Verification: Connectors fit tightly, and all exposed metal spade terminals are insulated with heat-shrink tubing or electrical tape.

4. Reconnect Power & Test Directional Signals:

Reconnect the main battery, reset the primary circuit breaker, and turn the key ignition ON. Toggle the 053c switch to Left, OFF, and Right to test signaling.

Verification: Toggling to Left flashes left-hand indicators; toggling to Right flashes right-hand indicators; returning the switch to the center position instantly shuts off all indicator lights.

Care and maintenance

Power Isolation: Always turn off the key ignition, open the main circuit breaker, and disconnect the traction battery pack before performing any physical maintenance or circuit inspection.

Housing & Detent Checks: Routinely inspect the weather-resistant ABS body and the 3-position toggle lever for cracks, play, or mechanical wear to prevent water ingress and preserve clean center-off detent action.

Terminal Maintenance: Check the three pre-wired copper terminal leads periodically to ensure tight wire connections, continuous insulation coverage, and complete freedom from corrosion or road grime.

Circuit Verification: Test left and right signaling functions periodically with the flasher relay to confirm zero voltage drop and proper illumination across all turn signal lamps.
