Overview
The HORN (RGT) is an essential, high-performance acoustic warning device designed specifically for electric vehicles, including e-bikes, e-scooters, and electric three-wheelers. Built with a robust metal housing and a weather-resistant diaphragm, this horn generates a clear, sharp, high-decibel alert signal to ensure maximum rider safety and audible presence in busy traffic environments.
Designed with standard terminal contacts and universal mounting brackets, the RGT Horn integrates effortlessly into standard EV 12V DC auxiliary lighting and horn circuits (or DC-DC converter output systems). Its low power consumption and durable, corrosion-resistant build make it a highly reliable OEM replacement or aftermarket component for daily e-mobility operation.
Key Features
High-Decibel Output: Delivers a clear, piercing sound to alert pedestrians and surrounding motorists in urban traffic conditions.
Compact & Rugged Design: Sealed, heavy-duty housing protects internal electromagnetic components from dust, road splatter, and moisture.
Low Power Consumption: Optimized electromagnetic coil draws minimal electrical current to preserve main traction battery range.
Universal Bracket Mounting: Pre-drilled steel mounting tab allows simple installation on standard frame mounts and fairing tabs.
Standard Terminal Connectivity: Equipped with standard male spade terminals for quick, secure electrical connections and easy serviceability.

Suitable applications
Suitable Vehicle Types & Applications
- Electric Scooters & E-Bikes: Primary acoustic signaling device for urban personal mobility vehicles requiring reliable, loud warning alerts.
- Light Commercial EV Tricycles & Cargo Carriers: Provides essential safety signaling capability for urban delivery and utility electric vehicles operating in dense traffic.
- Custom EV Builds & Conversions: Ideal retrofitting horn for DIY electric go-karts, custom e-motorcycles, and low-speed electric mobility projects.
System & Auxiliary Compatibility
- 12V DC Auxiliary System Compatibility: Operates directly on standard 12V DC auxiliary sub-circuits powered by the vehicle's onboard DC-DC converter.
- Standard EV Switch & Wiring Harness Integration: Directly compatible with standard handlebar horn switches, push-buttons, and 2-pin wiring harnesses using female spade receptacles.
- Universal Frame Mounting: Designed with an integrated steel tab featuring a standardized mounting hole that fastens to frame brackets, fork legs, or fairing mounts.
How to use
1. Power Isolation & Mounting Prep:
Turn off the vehicle ignition switch, disconnect the main battery pack, and trip the primary circuit breaker. Locate the dedicated horn mounting bracket near the front fork assembly, frame neck, or front fairing housing.
Verification: Vehicle power display remains completely off, and the mounting bracket surface is accessible and clean.
2. Mount the RGT Horn Body:
Align the integrated steel mounting tab of the HORN (RGT) (017d) with the vehicle frame bracket. Insert the mounting bolt, add a lock washer to prevent vibration loosening, and tighten the securing nut using a wrench.
Verification: The horn body is firmly secured to the frame and does not shake, vibrate freely, or touch adjacent moving parts like steering linkages.
3. Connect Auxiliary Electrical Wiring:
Connect the two 12V DC auxiliary wiring leads from the vehicle's horn switch harness to the dual male spade terminals on the horn body using female spade receptacles:
Positive Lead (+12V): Connects from the DC-DC converter / switched horn circuit.
Negative Lead (GND): Connects to the return ground circuit / switch circuit.
(Note: Standard electromagnetic horns are non-polar; either terminal pin accepts the positive or ground wire).
Verification: Both spade receptacles fit snugly over the male pins without leaving loose, exposed metal conductors.
4. Power On & Test Acoustic Signal:
Reconnect the main battery pack and switch the vehicle ignition to ON. Press the handlebar horn button to test for a crisp, loud horn output.
Verification: The horn instantly produces a sharp, continuous high-decibel acoustic tone upon pressing the horn button and silences immediately upon release.
Care and maintenance
Exterior Cleaning: Periodically wipe the outer body and mounting tab with a dry or slightly damp cloth to clear away dust, dirt, and road grime. Avoid spraying high-pressure water directly into the acoustic diaphragm opening.
Mounting Security: Inspect the frame mounting bolt and lock washer routinely to ensure engine vibrations or road shocks have not loosened the assembly.
Electrical Contact Check: Check the spade terminals periodically for signs of oxidation, rust, or loose terminal boots to maintain continuous electrical conductivity.
Questions & answers
What is the primary function of the HORN (RGT)?
It serves as an electromagnetic acoustic warning device providing loud signaling alerts for electric vehicles.
What operating voltage does the RGT Horn require?
It operates on a standard 12V DC auxiliary supply powered by the vehicle's onboard DC-DC converter.
What vehicle types is this horn suitable for?
It is suitable for electric scooters, e-bikes, electric rickshaws, 3-wheeler cargo carriers, and custom EV builds.
What type of terminals are used for wiring connections?
It features dual standard male spade terminal pins for quick connection with female spade wire connectors.
Is the electrical wiring polar on the RGT Horn?
No, standard electromagnetic horn terminals are non-polar, so either pin can connect to positive or ground.
How is the horn secured to the vehicle chassis?
It mounts securely using an integrated heavy-duty steel tab with a standardized bolt mounting hole.
Does the horn draw power directly from the main battery pack?
No, it must run through a 12V DC-DC converter output line rather than full traction battery voltage.
Is the housing weather-resistant for outdoor riding conditions?
Yes, it is built with a sealed metal alloy body designed to protect internal coils from dust and splatter.
What precautions should be taken before installing the horn?
Always switch off ignition power and disconnect the main traction battery pack before handling wire leads.
How can you maintain optimal horn performance over time?
Keep the horn opening clear of heavy dirt, check mounting bolts for tightness, and inspect terminals for rust.
