Overview
The EV Throttle (PLS FR+123) is a robust, multi-functional thumb/twist throttle assembly designed to provide precise driver control and operational flexibility across a wide range of light electric vehicles. Built to balance daily commuting reliability with multi-mode performance, this unit integrates both an electronic forward/reverse (FR) direction switch and a 3-speed mode selector switch (1, 2, 3) directly into its ergonomic housing.
Engineered with a high-accuracy linear Hall-effect sensor, it translates mechanical rotation into a smooth 0.8V–4.2V voltage signal for seamless, step-free acceleration. Its versatile internal electronic design supports an expansive voltage spectrum from 24V up to 72V DC, making it a drop-in replacement or upgrade for commercial e-trikes, personal e-scooters, and custom e-bike conversions.
Key Features
- 3-Speed Mode Selector (1-2-3): Integrated three-position toggle switch enables on-the-fly power limiting to optimize range or access full controller output.
- Forward / Reverse (FR) Toggle: Convenient handlebar-mounted direction switch simplifies maneuvering in tight spaces, parking, or low-speed reversing.
- Wide Voltage Compatibility (24V–72V): Broad operating voltage range fits 24V, 36V, 48V, 60V, and 72V DC motor controller systems.
- Linear Hall-Effect Throttle: Magnetic sensor architecture ensures smooth, proportional signal output without physical contact wear.
- Ergonomic Anti-Slip Grip: Textured surface profile offers enhanced grip comfort and reduces driver hand fatigue on long journeys.
- Heavy-Duty Build: Constructed from durable impact-resistant polymers to withstand outdoor environmental exposure and regular daily use.

- Standard Handlebar Fit: Universal mounting collar fits standard 22mm (7/8-inch) outer diameter EV handlebars.
- Controller Interface: Fully compatible with standard brushless DC (BLDC) motor controllers equipped with 3-speed limit terminals and forward/reverse signal logic inputs.
How to use
1. Power Down Vehicle & Prepare Handlebar:
Turn off the ignition switch, flip the main DC breaker, and disconnect the battery pack. Loosen the mounting screw on the old throttle grip, slide it off the handlebar, and wipe down the metal tube to remove dirt and oils.
Verification: The vehicle power display remains dark, and the handlebar surface is clean and smooth.
2. Mount the PLS FR+123 Throttle Assembly:
Slide the PLS FR+123 throttle unit onto the right side of the standard 22mm handlebar. Align the assembly so that both the 3-speed switch and the Forward/Reverse toggle can be easily reached by your thumb, then securely tighten the underside clamp screw.
Verification: The throttle assembly remains firmly locked in place without twisting or slipping on the handlebar tube.
3. Connect 3-Pin Main Throttle Harness:
Connect the standard 3-pin main throttle output plug to the controller's throttle input port. Ensure matching wire functions:
Red: +5V Regulated Logic Power
Black: Ground (GND)
Green: Throttle Signal Output (0.8V–4.2V)
Verification: The pin connections click together tightly with no loose terminals or exposed wire conductors.
4. Connect 3-Speed & Forward/Reverse Auxiliary Wiring:
Plug the remaining auxiliary leads from the throttle harness into their designated controller terminals:
3-Speed Selector: Connect the 3-pin switch harness to the controller's Low / Medium / High speed limit input.
Forward / Reverse Switch: Connect the 2-pin reverse switch wire to the controller's electronic direction toggle port.
Verification: All connectors snap into place securely with terminal lock latches engaged.
5. Route Harness & Verify Mechanical Spring Return:
Guide the wiring harness neatly along the frame toward the controller box and secure it with zip ties. Ensure enough line slack around the steering head so turning handlebars fully left and right does not stretch the cable.
Verification: Rotating the throttle grip operates smoothly and automatically snaps back to zero acceleration upon release.
6. Power On & Operational Function Check:
Safely elevate the drive wheel off the ground using the center stand. Reconnect the battery, turn on vehicle power, and check performance: verify smooth speed delivery, switch between Speeds 1, 2, and 3 to confirm speed limits, and switch to Reverse mode to verify wheel direction toggling.
Verification: Motor acceleration is proportional across all 3 speed tiers and reverses direction smoothly when engaged.
Care and maintenance
The EV Throttle (PLS FR+123) features a durable, sealed outer housing that guards internal Hall-effect sensors and micro-switches against light weather exposure and road debris. Clean the exterior twist grip routinely using a soft, damp cloth, avoiding high-pressure water streams directed at the cable exit or switch seams. Inspect the wiring harness periodically for pin tension, loose terminal connectors, or cracked wire insulation. Regularly check the mounting clamp screw to keep the throttle securely aligned on the 22mm handlebar and ensure the twist mechanism returns smoothly to zero upon release. Always disconnect the main battery before performing any wiring or electrical maintenance.
